The most reading I have done, admittedly, has been for school throughout my life. I loved reading as a child, but as I grew older I started to enjoy it less and less, not for any particular reason, and I would fall asleep reading books for school. I had to choose one of 12 books for a summer assignment and I am so extremely glad I chose this book. I can truly say it has sparked my love for reading again. To go from thinking I dislike reading to reading from 12:00 AM to 6:00AM. That’s right, going from falling asleep reading at night to reading six hours straight not yawning even once at the latest hours. This book tells a truly magnificent and extremely grasping story of two girls of rather different situations of birth, and how the Afghan war and Afghan culture of the time shaped their lives. I have felt every emotion while reading this book, I have laughed out of happiness multiple times, gotten heartwrenched and extremely sad to the point of tears, feeling helpless and powerless, and more. Through this book I have felt emotions I haven’t felt before, sometimes having to put the book down for a bit to recover. This book was extremely well written, descriptive, and a book I could read again with no regrets. I have learned so many lessons from this book. I love to watch movies and tv shows and one of my favorite things about a good show or movie is when I learn a valuable life lesson, or multiple. The value this book has to me with all the lessons I learned is something I am very thankful for. This book was a reminder to how truly blessed I am to be a boy born and raised in California where the people of this book dream of going. I highly recommend this book to all to anyone over the age of 15, depending on how much you think you can take. It was truly moving and I mean this when I say it, life changing.
