Rarely does a movie draw the audience into the story and subject as much as this movie does ... Just about every critical ingredient that lends to this - be it the narrative, the cinematography, the characters, the flow or the utterly natural progression and closure - literally bind the watcher into a compelling sense of identity and empathy. You could be (or be associated) with any of these aspects ... For most of us, our lives are just typically being part of common society ... the 'common man' .. a mute or helpless witness to the many prejudices and shenanigans perpetrated or paraded around us. The end is arguably comforting in a dramatic sense .. movies usually have to end that way .. but leaves you thinking about the core issues. This is the lamentably forgotten moral of making a movie. A niggling sense of deja vu combined with your inner voice that nudges you to do something reformative or impactful ... beyond just shrugging your shoulders and going with the flow ... Kalidas's casting and performance as Saravanan is outstanding ...
