I went through the court-ordered school desegregation in high school. The bond and realization we were all just kids who liked the same things was first pioneered by our football team. The football team began practicing that summer, got to know each other, became friends. It was the parents who created all the negativity and fear. When we all started the school year, within a few weeks, we didn't see what the big uproar was all about. The funniest thing was the High School staff was terrified there would be fights and a hare-trigger for shutting down school during the day. The football players would plan a fake fight during our morning break, and we all knew what day they would do it. As soon as they did it, the Principal would panic and send us all home! Mission accomplished. It took them several months to figure out what we were doing. I like this movie because this was exactly how it was when I was in high school. Great movie.
