I'm definitely not a fan; I was hoping that CA would go back to making generals mortals again, and utilizing the general's bodyguard. In Warhammer, it's awesome and hilarious to see a dwarf foot lord slay an entire army of skaven, but in the newest "historical" total war games, it's just a bit annoying. I'm aware that total war Troy is based on greek mythology, but it's still a bit boring just sending in your general without really any risk of him dying. A great example of this was in Three Kingdoms. I got it free off of epic games, but definitely wouldn't buy this title. If your'e new to the Total War series, I would recommend Warhammer II, Rome II, Medieval II, Shogun II, and Nepoleon; all of those games are much more tactical and finished than Troy or Three Kingdoms
