When I first read Bowden's Killing the Hidden Waters more than ten years ago I was stunned by its sheer power: crisp, clear, erudite, effortlessly persuasive in the way the author had connected the dots in what was then for me a very dark room. It still is for me a great read, a classic in its own right. I saw Bowden on that first read (I have read it several times since) as a trail blazer. I is a huge tragedy that it is not better known. That Killing the Hidden Waters is still out there available to anyone who wants a copy is immensely reassuringly.
