Excellently written, read it for an English literature class and found myself reading it again a few months later. At first, I was a little confused about the ending, it's written in a way that induces mystery, and while I like that it ends without any definitive conclusion, (for example, the readers don't know what will happen to Connie, whether she'll be killed, tortured or kept locked up the rest of her life) I think a lot of the negativity towards this short story may come from the fact that it ends this way. Viewing its writing over any personal feelings towards the content described "Where are you going where have you been?" is no doubt 10/10.
My personal feeling towards the material written rates it around 7/10. The dialogue was great as well as the description of her friends and family, however, I find Connie to be an unintelligent and undetermined character, which, undoubtedly lead to her demise.
This is not to say that Connie is not a well-written character. She, and all the other characters are very well written, I just personally find her annoying, but I still acknowledge that all her actions match up with her characterization depicted from beginning to end.
