Honestly if you haven’t read the book the chances of you liking the movie are much greater than if you had, simply because you had nothing better to compare the movie to. On this note, I completely expected the movie to not be exactly like the book, who didn’t? But never in a million years did I imagine it to have been completely different. Let me start by saying that you absolutely cannot just change the whole plot of the movie, taking out the bet scene was the biggest mistake the movie made. With what they replaced the bet with made it just like every other 13 year old romance movie. This completely ruined the originality of the movie. What really got me was how they took bits and pieces from the book and scrambled them apart and just threw them into the movie hoping they would fit just right. Through doing this the movie lost the flow it should have captured in the first scene. Along with this issue, they also threw in new, random scenes that obscured the feeling of the movie. Besides all of these problems another big one that many are arguing about is how they changed Hardin’s whole attitude. I understand that they had to make it pg-13, but honestly the movie would’ve been much better if it wasn’t. With all of these problems aside the move wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t the best either. I hope that there is a second one, because I have the belief that with all of these reviews they will take the movie and Incorporate a better style that pertains more to the original storyline. Overall it was a disappointment, but the movie itself was okay and I highly recommend watching it so you can construct your own opinions.
