Illumination's Grinch acts like a watered-down Gru. The Hoos are dull, though Max gets some character, the Grinch himself is not very nasty or mean. The movie doesn't bend into that weird PG13 territory Jim Carrey's did, but I gotta say even that was a little more entertaining. There is absolutely nothing added in 2018 Grinch that improves the short original.
