Started this series with no expectations at all; I hadn't even heard of the series. I'm on Ep 8, and ready to quit, but won't, as there's one episode left.
First, Hillary Swank is a terrific actor. Their family dynamic felt very real because of all the great acting. But this had a flip side: too many too much teen/family/parenting stories. I wanted to be in space on the way to Mars, and I didn't care much about the 15 yr old's issues. I did care about Matt's issues, though, and found his character compelling. Josh Charles is compelling.
Another thing started to niggle me as I watched: these parents are way too perfect. Both uncannily have the right response on the tips of the tongue always. I don't need to see family dysfunction - but a story is believable when it's characters are real.
So the commander of the space flight is texting with her family and involved with family issues as she's commanding this monumental flight to Mars?? Seriously? That was too much.
