Pretty fun game it has good graphics, in particular the bodies and the movements. The faces aren't as impressive, many main characters look very similar. You can create your own character which is cool but it's hard to get it to look exactly the way you want, the eyes in particular can't be changed in that many ways and every character pretty much have the same facial expressions it's a bit limited in that regard.
But overall I'm not complaining about the graphics, and the sound effects when you punch or get punch does sound really believable.
You can play one off games or go career mode which is recommended as then you can make a character and try to rise to the top, when you start off you have a very limited amount of points (which is turned into the skills of your choice) but as you play games (and in particular sparr in between games, you get more and more points to boost your fighter's skills of different styles up). Which is a good way to do it, it will take you proving your fight-skills in the ring until you finally get to play against bigger names. In real life no one comes from out of the blue and fights the best so that's the way it should be.
One thing I thought was a bit of a waste of time was ocassionally you get notifications where you are asked to do promotional shoots for various companys or make appearances on like UFC Fight Night or asked to get trained by some specialist in another camp. And you then get the options to accept or not, if you accept you get some more cred which means that you have the ability to move up the ranks.
That's cool and all and obviously you always accept, but the thing is all these things you accept including the training camps you never actually get to do any of these things not even get to see a montage of your character doing these things or anything. So that's all kind of pointless. And you get notifications about various emails which are all very generic.
The only thing you actually do in the game is sparr (to practice fight and get points to boost the skill of your player in various fields), redesigning your shorts and also of course fights.
It's still fun but yeah they could do more with it.
And it's rather repetative, the music is the same song over and over whengoing through your schedule or designing shorts (except for the browsing of the main menu) and the introductions are the same everytime, same host and arena every time.
Even if you've fought a guy before in the game and beat him (once, twice or even three times) they will always introduce you (by a generic nickname of your choice of maybe 12 different ones "the buzzsaw" or "el toro" for instance.). And the person you're fighting will almost always be introduced as someone really hard to beat (even if you have fought and beat him 3 times in a row before). The continuity isn't there. I mean in the ranking your numbers still goes up but yeah wish they'd thought of that when they created the game.
And you definitly will fight most fighters more than once, cause there aren't that many in each weight category to pick from.
Eventually (after 30ish matches or so) you will get a email saying that the doctors can't let you go on and you have to retire, which can be a bummer. Especially if you are ranked number 2 and only have the number 1 guy to beat. You usually get at least 1 or more fights to try to get that victory though (something I've yet to manage). That makes sense though, no fighter can fight for eternity.
And then you have to create a new one and start over, but by then you most likely want to just give it a break for a couple months if only to try to get that repetative theme song out of your head.
As with pretty much all older games the servers to the online-mode where you can play against random people online is down, they usually take them down after a couple years.
Also only male fighters so no Gina Carano for instance which I was hoping. Overall recommended.
