2/5 (SPOILER FREE) The story was unbelievably forced and synthetic. The characters... Well, out of the handful of characters that were present, only two of them were half-decent. There was NO TIME for any character development.
The acting was acceptable for the most part. However I think Scarlett Johanssons talent was wasted on this movie.
The music, from composer, Alexandre Desplat, wasn't his best work. Alexandre was trying to stay true to the John Williams identity of the original trilogy, which I respect, In some cases the score was straight out of the Jurassic park movie from 1993.
The CGI or visual effects were the only great thing that came out of this movie.
Director Gareth Edwards did an okay job, especially in creating suspense and thrill on screen. The big bad creature in this movie was particularly chilling.
The main complaint I have for this movie was the script. It is painfully obvious that this movie's entire main plot is running on very thin ice when it comes to it's believability. you could barely call it science-fiction because there's nothing scientific about it.
There was also a lot of examples of the writer, David Keopp, trying to create suspense in the story, by very questionable means. a lot of times characters' agency and even intelligence had to be sacrificed to create more tension and move the story forward. so a lot of times, the characters made very stupid decisions and actions that made the movie unbearable for me to watch.
Great thanks to all of the Executive producers that greenlit this project. I didn't know it was possible but they actually delivered something even worse than Jurassic World : Dominion to the franchise.
