After meeting Al in my spin class, we sparked conversation on traveling the world. He mentioned he wrote a memoir and being a teacher, I was excited to read his story. Al writes with such detail of the family’s love for God and each other during a traumatic time in their lives during WWII. I could not put this book down. I highly recommend you to read this, based in now what we call Czech Republic, I had no idea how innocent German families in the countryside were treated and pulled from their homes as the hated people of Europe. Even though, they had no idea of the war around them. A compelling story that added to my increasing knowledge of all involved in this horrific time. And how Al was able to succeed against all odds.
