Jim Hancock (Terminus Pictures)

It's a brutal movie.... actually very difficult to watch. Whereas some people don't think it's realistic, I disagree. Everybody thinks that everybody thinks like they do... That combined with living in the middle of nowhere with a damaged mother... With here kind heart she can't comprehend or anticipate the wickedness in others. In her mind she doesn't see the harm in prostitution, her self worth is too low and she doesn't get how the rest of the world sees things... as a consequence it is agonizing for her to experience the cruelty of the average scum bag in the world.... still a must see Olivia Cooke is just masterful.

I looked forward to this film, but was profoundly disappointed. Carrey Mulligan, was great, looked great, that was the end of anything great about this film .... the film was a bad "chick flick, for lack of a better way to put it.... there were scenes that were plain embarrassing, a grown man singing Paris Hiltons "The Stars are Blind" was one such scene that would never happen in a million years.. What was painted as a "revenge film" even kinder gentler.. .. sorry, but to put yourself in harms way, meaning rape and assault or worse ... and the revenge is "shame on you" is not worth the gamble, and unsatisfying for the viewer... it ultimately is a cheesy martyr film, and not one you feel good about, just disappointment..no lesson, no justice, so bad, such an embarrassing story, with a disappointing ending and conclusion, I don't know where the glowing reviews are coming from.

What an exercise in frustration, (spoilers BTW) when you have a protagonist that is absurdly stupid, it maddens me, she watches 2 or 3 people with guns die, does she pick up their guns? Why no? That would require the logic of a gerbil..and give her a fighting chance.. and make for a more interesting film.... .. so after gun shot wounds and other torments... she finally gets a break, she's home free in a car.... how can I screw this opportunity up?.... I know, lets push the auto service / theft service button so everybody knows where I am .... and they promptly shut down the car... brilliant.. and just when you think she had skirted by in spite of her stupidity..... she still lets the husband / family member that allowed you to get into this death trap to put his hands on her and of course that backfired ... just brilliant... by the time she had displayed so much stupidity, you had decided that just as an act of kindness to the human race, you hoped for her death in the name of selective evolution...lest she procreate .. finally the family explodes no thanks to her..... as predicted, as she had to survive as this film is completely formula.... nothing to see here folks...

I kept thinking that I was missing something, as I couldn't see any plot developing, no character development, reason for anything that was transpiring, I assumed I needed to give it time, but no plot did ever reveal itself as it is without one. There is no justice, no reward, no vengeance, no reason nothing... I can't think of any movie with a budget of any sort that could possible be worse, hated every second of it... and for waiting for the end to justify me suffering through this disaster, it just gave you one more shot of absurdity, with one of the most unlikeable faces and characters in recent memory singing embarrassingly bad karaoke, after killing the protagonist ....since the edit didn't work...couldn't save it.... banking on a red gel or filter over the works, and leaving out fill with a locked down camera and long static shots doesn't save it.. . ..BTW.. this film has nothing in common with David Lynch films..

This would have been a fair Man of Steel sequel, or a third installment, but as an origin story of any superhero film is was disappointing. It certainly has nothing in common with the original Superman story.... The first Superman with Reeves had it right.. and I thought Brandon Routh was an excellent choice to run with the torch passed from Christopher Reeve. Here you have hero to the people, saving the people, truth justice and the American way...... and an alternate personality in Clark Kent that both Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh did terrifically. And Kate Bosworth was an awesome Lois Lane...... Lois Lane isn't suppose to find out who Superman is before the world even knows Superman is a hero, as they did in man of steel? So all we are left with is a film with superhuman people destroying cities and throwing each other through buildings, the whole movie... and my least favorite version of Christopher Reeves was Superman 2 with Zod and friends.... I don't understand any superhero movie that insist on bringing characters into the story that are the physical equal to the hero.... then we're back to throwing each other through buildings.... whether or not The Man of Steel's Henry Cavill could pull off the geeky Clark Kent, we don't know.... because he didn't show up until the end... if you are going to reboot, stick to the story.....I didn't care for the new story at all...

If this film had a plot I missed it, it was just an in-cohesive, journey with no destination, nobody that you cared about....if they did get somewhere they just turned around and went somewhere else... with characters of no importance dropping in and out... . nothing was accomplished, and to think the actors that humiliated themselves playing these unflattering roles, just to put people to sleep. I kept thinking, surely there is going to be a payoff, nope... just a day in the life of a bunch of dysfunctional lost characters.

As a photographer and filmmaker, a photographer that spent many years shooting for Playboy etc.... and have shot a lot of fine art nudes.. there is a talent to putting models at ease and a seasoned artist knows what are the want before the model shows up.... here I see this supposed "artist" with this beautiful nude model in front of him, yet he is clueless as what to do, couldn't be less prepared, has zero style or talent, or charisma, is working with a fountain pen and pouring on what looked like a glass that a water color artist cleaned their brushes in.. what possible use is that model there for? then as he scribbles, and chicken scratches, he directs her that her expression offends him... as if her changing her expression would change the garbage he is putting on cheap student paper... How difficult would it be to bring in a real artist to give us the slightest bit of suspension of disbelief..and show some real results, even if you cut back and forth to a real artist hand and then the actors face... making it worth her time to be there... . when she complains she is uncomfortable, he says that means it is good, as he continues to scribble nonsense that hasn't the slightest resemblance to the model in front of him, or art in any form.. ... a guy that is without talent would never get a model to stand and suffer while he fumbles and embarrasses himself... for the rest of us, she is lovely... the fake artist just an excuse to have a beautiful nude woman on camera.... she was the only redeeming thing in the film... just look for the freeze frames and save 2 and a half hours of your life.

Definitely in my top 5, I am a photographer, filmmaker and a film buff... My father was 50 when I was born and I'm 61, so his father talked about Jesse James a lot.... My dad told me the story of Jesse James shot in the back dusting a picture.. that is one of the things that is unique about the film, we know what is going to happen before we even watch it... knowing the history of this is part of what made the tension and the score work so well, "don't that picture look dusty?" Then Nick Caves perfect score kicks in, it was beautiful....... Brad Pitt played Jesse James as he should have been played, as a psychopath... but you still feel for the guy, he was the world most lonely man.... The cinematography was some of the best I've seen, the train arriving, before the robbery..... just poetic.... this film is too good for the average Joe... that's why it isn't known as one of the greatest films made like it should be...I borrowed heavily from this film for my indy documentary.... Come On In We're Dead...

I love this movie, I always like dark comedies, and I think Kati Holmes was made to order for it.... she perfectly exemplifies the goodie 2 shoes girl, who somehow never quite grew up, she is so perfect the birds and deer flock while she walks.... the sex scene was perfect and hysterical.... the kicker this wholesome goodie goodie has no time for bad guys... the closest thing I have seen to this film would be John Waters "Serial Mom" I rarely give out 5's, but Katie Holmes really nailed this and made the movie... it's not going to be for everybody, especially those without an offbeat sense of humor....

A mountain man and his pig, somebody takes the mans pig, revenge ensues..... he hunts down the bad guys responsible for taking his beloved pig... he shows them what for, reunites with his pig, and returns to his hermit life and lived happily ever after with his pig.... at least that is what the trailer would have you assume.... as it unfolds you can't figure out what is motivating him..... is he a badass, he steps into what appears to be a underground barefist fighting crowd..... ah... so that is his history... nope, he takes a horrific face pounding, for reasons I never figured out... hmmm.. not much score to speak of, why is everybody so somber, why, why, why?... ooooh, should have guessed he's a former hot shot chef, in the high dollar fungus in the dirt business, otherwise known as truffles... what else?.. I am a movie buff, I watch a lot of films, I know a good one when I see it, this was not one of them... why the fuss over Nick Cages acting?... is it that tough to sulk around, speak quitely for an entire film....is that what critics consider impressive acting these days.. ... not impressed there either... after all the slow pointless exercise, waiting waiting, waiting for some kind of payoff for my, time invested but he doesn't even get to live happily ever after..... I want my 2 hours back and the price I paid to rent this sleep inducing film....
