Saw Barbie last night. Stunned that people are so excited about this movie. That was not about equality and empowerment. That was about lordship, self-absorption and control. Just gross.
All the men were either weak, silly brainless men, who cannot communicate their needs or interests. If not that, than self absorbed, manipulating women.
The women were no better. Clueless women who thought being empowered to self actualize means men have to be subservient, brainless, play things. You've just reversed the roles and celebrated further inequality. The only really good aspect of the movie was Rosario Dawson's monologue in Barbieland.
Come on people when are we going to demonstrate that real progress is collaboration, compassion, communication, support and sharing the load of the world's burdens rather than creating more burdens for each other? Stop celebrating the divisiveness Hollywood and big media pounds into you: That one gender, race, religion is always "lower in value" than another. Gross, don't celebrate that movie. See it for what it really is.
Hollywood could have taken the opportunity at the end of the movie to demonstrate true enlightenment of both men and women and rewrote the Barbieland constitution to reflect true equality. Had it actually concluded the movie with actual enlightened change my review would have been very different. The ending made this a bomb. Not a revelation. So disappoint...
