Excellent historical fiction. Excellent historical context given of not just Uruguayan history, but history of the fight for LGBTQ civil rights worldwide and the heartbreaking struggles faced along the way. Includes layers of context including Afro-Uruguayan perspectives, all while following along an engaging story, and written stylishly and creatively. I read while traveling to Uruguay and thoroughly enjoyed! It added some fun context to my trip and was a great point of reference in conversation and for asking questions while there.
