Any movie becomes senseless and absolutely unbearable to watch when the characters keep reacting and take decisions which are very very and I repeat very far from what people in real life would do.
Also, it follows the stereotypical jump scares so accurately, that quite a chunk of the movie is predictable. Although at this point the rocking chair moving suddenly, the sleeping child opening eyes suddenly have become so common that we should stop calling them jump scares I guess.
But the real let down is in character development and their reactions:
The house is haunted and they all know it. So of course when the mom end dad leave because of an emergency (apparently caused by the haunting), the grandmother has to sleep on an entirely different floor from the granddaughters (Like Queen Elizabeth- Have to follow protocol no matter what, right?) but ALSO, decide to check on them in the middle of the night, and of course ends up as dead meat.
The daughter in law who wanted to leave the house before all this happened, absolutely INSISTS she wants to stay in it even after the ghost has actually killed a person. Why? No explanation given from the DIL point of view what so ever. May be she’s just curious whom the ghost will kill now. At that point, anything could be going on.
The daughter of the family is possessed, going around a weird tree in circles and her feet start bleeding, and the parents just leave her there, chatting leisurely a few feet away like “Ivvani maa intlo roju avve vishayale” types.
Running out of time and space, and mostly patience to rant about this silly silly movie, but the movie is full of such unreal people and sometimes hilariously unreal reactions.
How did this ever become a hit and get an 8.5 on imdb? An audience who’s ever ready to forgive I guess.
