While a vast majority of my time spent playing the game was truly incredible, most of it was spent being frustrated at the sheer level of bad design decisions in a veritable flawed masterpiece. The story and characters were too overly simple to the point of almost seeming like an afterthought, the gameplay boils down to at least 80% busywork towards a fairly underwhelming goal, and there are multiple moments where it feels as though Nintendo tried to play things safe for a new adventure. Some it even felt either rushed or controversially designed.
-They want you to play the game blind, but there are countless times when you have to have a guide, otherwise, you'll be stuck there for potentially hours.
-They want you to do everything the game has to offer, but the game itself gives you little to nothing as a reward for doing so.
-They don't want to have one Divine Beast quest feel more important the others, but they massively emphasize the Zora people moreso than ANY of the other races.
-They want you to diversify your weapon pool, but since every weapon breaks no matter what, the only way to use your weapons is to use your worst weapons first and work up from there as they break. Weapons also have NOTHING to make them stand out from other weapons, meaning that they may as well be textureless blobs with damage numbers.
It's problems like these and countless more that ultimately hold back BoTW from feeling a truly amazing game. Overall, 7/10.
