After spending close to $500 supporting Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) through buying expansion packs and year-long ESO plus memberships, we encountered wretched customer service and realized we should not have supported this company to begin with. If you buy a video game at Walmart and it’s defective, you can return it. If you buy a pre-paid year long DIGITAL subscription to ESO Plus and their own update breaks the game play thereby making it defective, there are no refunds or any kind of accountability from the company. After giving us the run around as is typical with bad customer service, they eventually stopped responding to the refund request altogether. AWESOME!
In the ESO forums, an ESO representative states, "If you wish to cancel a purchase of the game and obtain a refund, you should contact the elder scrolls online support. We cannot refund ESO plus memberships that have been partially used. It also, is not possible to refund items purchased in the crown store except to the extent required by local law." There are multiple problems with this. It costs NOTHING to do the return. No re-stock fees, nothing so choosing to have a no return policy and keep people's funds when they aren't happy with the product is a really horrible way to do business. Second, the customer service representative made NO MENTION of not being able to refund our fees, he and the others just eventually stopped responding to our requests, avoiding the topic altogether! Lastly, stating they will do a return only "to the extent required by local law" suggests that they can break their own game and refuse a refund unless you hire a lawyer. GREAT COMPANY!
We deleted our accounts so we never forget what kind of company they are and so we never forget what kind of people we want to be – the kind that DO NOT help these companies succeed. On the bright side, perhaps they’re already receiving their Karma. If they need to hold onto our $300 THAT BADLY, then they might not be doing well? Perhaps the customer service representatives fell off the face of the planet because they ran out of funds to pay them? Please learn from our mistakes and decide for yourself whether this is the kind of company you care to support. Cheers! :)
