Using black and white this film reaches the level of Danish master cinematographer Carl Theodor Dreyer.
It is true art with an uncanny ability to expose the human being in much the same manner as Dostoevsky does. The film is well worth watching, unforgettable although at times you might wish to and leaves you almost exhausted with despair of the shadow of the human condition. One is left with many questions. The more you bring to the movie the more you will take away from watching it. It is profound.
