The concept reminds me of Level Up (2012) from the CN Real era. Except it's fully animated, has cooler action scenes, better enemies and doesn't have an ounce of suck.
The art style is unique and solid.
The colours are vibrant with it being cornea burning.
The animation is energetic, anime infused and combined with the artstyle perfectly lets the characters facial and corporal expressions flow through.
Speaking of characters, Miko Kubota was a pretty much a fan favorite even before she spoke a word. Even before we saw her and Hi Five in that intro. That is how you know you created a great character. I was afraid that she would end up being more interesting that Five. And my fears were confirmed. Don't get me wrong, Five is fun but Miko is clearly that Catra, Rayla of Glitch Techs i.e. the most interesting and expressive character in the show. Except this time she is human.
Overall, I love this show! Even though the story and characters aren't the best in Nick's house, not every new I.P. has to be the next Avatar: The Last Airbender. I totally satisfied with the first season, even though it could have gone out on an epic season finale. The final episode is less Marvel's Avengers more Marvel's Ant Man. There is an overarching story here and I can not wait see it all the way through. Now that this show is one Netflix, this new I.P. is pretty much set for life. I have never heard of Netflix cancelling a show without good reason *cough*Vickerman*cough*. And after all the controversy that surrounded their former president *cough*Zarghami*cough*, a sitcom show runner *cough*Schneider*cough* and certain Cartoon Creator *cough*Hartman*cough*, Nickelodeon has ran out excuses.
So love it or hate it, you have to at least support entirely new I.P.'s that are not just reboots, spin offs or adaptations. Especially one that is a clear love letter to gamers. And for that Nickelodeon, we salute you.
