I had high hopes for the film and based on reviews coming in. I was expecting an excellent performance across the cast and the typical, intense and engaging direction from Robert Eggers. Instead I found a bloated and melodramatic performance across the cast that felt amateur. The only exceptions are Willam Defoe and Ralph Ineson, they were fantastic and the only thing that held together an otherwise mediocre film. The portrayal of count orlok played like a Joseph Stalin look alike contest with the sound I can only describe as a Victorian darth Vader. I actually laughed out loud at one point in the film. I expected a lot more. There are some stunning shots but as a film, I thought it was boring and annoying. I wish I waited for the streaming release. Money would have been better spent seeing the heretic again
