It is pure jazz in the Jazz Fusion genre. I listened to it with English friends then American friends were playing Jeàn Luc Ponty. Sweet Nighter is moody and deeply soothing, you can study to this music if you get the volume right. I would prefer it as a background music or music to drift deeply into with headphones - take your pick. It can be concentrated listening or melodic accompaniement to a nice evening. The music is fine and very clever, both in its composition and it's playing. Weather Report are a very well accomplished band and their tours bring in the crowds and are serious business. My personal favourite is Will. Which I use for background when working or jamming with friends. The deft skill of the musicians enables the waves of the music to drift from page to page, as you will see.
