I recently started watching K Drama series and this took the longest for me to get hooked but I'm so glad that I finished it. There is so much to unpack in this series and I founds some of the reviews to be harsh.
The relationship that developed between Ma Hoon and Gae-ttong was beautiful to watch. It showed growth on both parts of the characters and why they were truly equally matched. Gae-ttong always had an open heart and cared for others without expecting anything in return, Ma Hoon had a closed heart based on a child hood trauma and refused to believe that people truly loved for more than their own selfish gain. These two characters grew together, Gae-ttong refined and turned into a lady and Ma Hoon turned into her protector.
Onto the next characters. Do-Joon and Kang Ji-Hwa. Kang Ji-Hwa was forced to fill the role of a son even though she was born a girl. Due to that fact she never fully embraced her femininity and only portrayed the upbringing of being a noble lady. Do-Joon was so accustomed to being surrounded by women that were feminine that he found Kang Ji Hwa interesting because those qualities did not come naturally. He was the perfect balance for her because he allowed her to lean into being feminine and opening her heart. Kang Ji Hwa did not find anything special about Gae-ttong because she was looking at it wrong. Gae-ttong had a big open heart which is a top feminine quality and why Su and Ma Hoon fell in love with her.
