Well, where do I start? The show is gorgeous, and the footage is incredible. Some of the first hand accounts are moving. That's where the positives end however.
The show is filled with inaccuracies or outright mistakes, it frequently glosses over important events and most egregiously for me, it doesn't acknowledge many of the brave men and women who fought in the war. As for this last point, the documentary covers the Fall of Tobruk and yet fails to acknowledge the ANZAC, Indian, Libyan, Polish and Czech troops who successfully repelled Rommel's forces one year prior.
The same episode refers to the Battle of Stalingrad as "fighting to a standstill". Perhaps "meat grinder" would be a more fitting description. It fails to mention the strategic importance of Stalingrad (save a quote from Hitler that isn't elaborated on), nor does it acknowledge the human cost of the battle as the bloodiest of the war.
