**SPOILERS**
This novel tackled so many issues from mental health to motherhood. Sleep disorders, childhood trauma, child loss, PPD, narcissism/manipulation, suicide. How mental health is often dismissed, covered up, the stigma behind mental health diagnoses . The expectations of motherhood. How people react when discussing the challenges of it, to portray only the best parts of being a mom. All the sacrifices that mothers make. The mom guilt. Loss of identity. How the majority of the care if expected by the mother and the father has no to little expectations. I am sure I could dive deeper on this but I appreciate the acknowledgment of these struggles.
The story itself is captivating as the reader is propelled down the trail of Isabelle’s personal guilt when her toddler Mason was kidnapped the year prior. The list of suspects, including herself, keep you guessing and questioning everyone involved.
I only wish I could have had more insight from Ben at some point. I am curious as to what actually happened and how he justifies his pattern, the accusations, and his motives. I would like to know Waylon a little better too. The only characters I felt a connection to Isabelle, Margret, and Mason.
