If I'm brutally honest? The show romantizes and normalizes red flags. They have a decent cast, and bilal is phenomenal. But that doesn't change that the plot is actually disturbing.
Shahmeers lying is flawless and truly proves that to tell one lie, you have to tell a 100. The man likely has some sort of mental problem here bc it makes 0 sense for a rich guy who grew up in comfort to effortlessly live a completely opposite lifestyle the way he is as fazal baksh. His lies pile up every ep- from crying about being ghareeb- to his lack of ethics in threatening nargis ( who deserves it, but shahmeer doesn't get to decide who deserves what). Think about it a little realistically- we would be disturbed if some guy who became your tenant is actually someone who got in the house with the intention of pursuing you- and he lies abt every detail of his life to make it happen. Red flag with the brightest red possible
Shibra's sister is also incredibly problematic - she knows how much shameer is lying but considers it romantic. She's okay with him lying to her sister bc he got her marriage to happen and paid for it. Zero loyalty towards her sister and only concerned about herself. Red flag.
Shibra herself was initially a red flag till she fell for fazal. She was intrusive, preachy, and rude. Turned down proposals bc she wanted someone honest - but your requirements don't allow you to bash everyone who comes to your house. Also, she spent most of her time looking down on fazal bc he's poor. Red flag ( that they sort of wrote into not being a red flag)
The dad continuously enabling shibra being rude to everyone who comes to their house. The dad allows a man he does not know very well to live in his house despite having two daughters whose security should have been number 1 priority. The way he handled sukainas marriage - he def knew what his sister was like. And even if he didn't- sukaina is right to harbour a grudge against him. Either he could have gone along with what his sis wanted - or he should have ended the marriage & spared sukaina the misery of being tied to that family. Sticking to your principles means being able to stand straight- dad glued himself to the floor and stood straight. Followed his ethics- but did little to solve the problem.
Overall, ishq murishid is great if you watch with your brain shut off and common sense doesn't exist. It's comedic and fun. But if you seriously think about the plot ( which, yes, i know it meant to be fantasy). This is basically a fantasy fairytale show that at its core is normalising and romanticiisng all the things we don't want or need from the relationships in our life. We don't need guys who lie like shahmeer, dad's who blindly value ethics over reality, sisters who chose completion of their own goals over protecting their sister or educated girls who cannot tell the difference bw speaking up and badtameezi. But alas, ishq murishid gives us all of this wrapped up in a bundle of comedy and bilals great acting- so we accept it. Doesn't speak well of pakistani awam standards tbh
