I never played the original for GBA, but I know from hearing opinions online that it holds a lot of nostalgia for most people. Likewise, they found this remake to be lacking and a waste of money. I personally found the game to be good. The gameplay is simple but (with that Nintendo charm) addictive and enjoyable. The levels are nice and snappy but I can't say they offer that much of a challenge. In addition, the game is very short, and this is coming from someone that is slow at completing games, I had the main story beaten in about 3 days (given I only play for about an hour a day). I'm also a massive cheapskate, so I decided to get my money's worth and go for 100%. It's very repetitive but it'll take you a good few hours to get it done, and by then end of it you'll most likely have around 15 hours clocked up on your Switch. I don't believe you should have to 100% a game to get your moneys worth, so if you don't like going for full completion, I'd recommend skipping this one and spending that £40 on something else. In the UK, Super Mario Wonder is currently the same price as this game, and although that game only takes about 15 hours to 100% as well, it is FAR more enjoyable. So if you have to pick one, pick the latter. In conclusion, the game is good but nothing special, the music is fantastic and I would imagine young children would get a lot of out it. I would advise veterans looking for a challenge to skip out on this one.
