The true, hitherto untold story of genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Hindu Pandits from Kashmir valley on 19th Jan 1990. Excellent performances by all cast members with Anupam Kher throwing a career best performance that stays with you long after the movie has ended. The movie minces nothing in depicting the cold brutality with which Pandits were murdered, and all the scenes depicted in it are backed by eyewitnesses and local media reports that were blacked out by national mainstream media of the time.
I was at the premier of The Kashmir Files last night. Some Kashmiri Pandits who had fled the valley on that fateful night were also there. They were very moved and grateful that the events and circumstances that they faced in those dark, desolate, murderous days were finally being brought to light after over thirty years. The community continues to seek justice as not a single murderer has ever been charged or convicted for their crimes. Shockingly, the Supreme Court rejected their application for an investigation into the Kashmiri Pandit genocide citing delay of 27 years.
If you care about the nations history or its future, in true secularism, in the spirit of truth and reconciliation rather than denial and burial, please watch this grim, beautifully made and historically accurate film.
