If you're just watching to enjoy the sets and special effects, the show is well worthwhile.
It would be better if Netflix invested more resources in hiring better writers for plot and dialogue. Too many prolonged scenes of fill--people screaming, fighting, sex, gore. Too many throw-away characters. If a scene doesn't contribute to plot or story development, cut. Make it relevant, then play it out.
If Netflix is going to copy from Star Trek and other past sci-fi TV and movie successes, they should also to hire that caliber of writers: recognized sci-fi authors, scientists, names in the field. It's tacky for a show to be so derivative. Once in awhile, as an homage (and with a wink), a little re-rendering can be appreciated.
Netflix, you have the resources and you have the viewership. Find good writers. Pay them. Let them work their magic.
