JWR gets a solid 3.49 / 5 from me… Definitely better than the last two, but unfortunately that’s the best thing I can possibly say about it. Bar was pretty low to clear the last two Jurassic World movies anyway, and JWR had so much more potential. Ostensibly this wasn’t a bad movie either but it seemingly relies on CGI and splashy action scenes too much. Gone are the days of Michael Crichton’s magic from his original two Jurassic Park novels… The plot just doesn’t have much of a soul here— nothing special going on and it feels like this could have been written with AI or plucked from fan fiction. Predictable plot armor goes to the good guys here - and that’s just a shame since this movie flirted with darker themes at times. But played it safe in the end of the day— too safe and monotonous in some of the most important ways. Also I hate the hybrids at this point but once again like all the Jurassic World movies have done, this one leans so hard into hybrids that it loses any sense of potential realism. Hardly any raptors at all either, which is a crying shame. I’m not sure what they can do to spice things up, but more hybrids definitely ain’t it— I would always prefer a better storyline with some of the original dinosaurs over this cloning-gone-wrong hybrid mutant crap. But again, for all of these glaring faults this movie wasn’t a complete let down. There were some very good scenes in here and breathtaking visuals that screamed flashy Blockbuster hit, albeit with a tame, shallow plot underneath it all.
