I would absolutely recommend this film, and am frankly shocked to read some of the poor reviews it's received so far! I thought it was a really fun film that was well acted and exceptionally written. Providing viewers with a refreshingly original blend of action and campy comedy that's reminiscent of Jackie Chan films at their finest, while also playing with tropes found in Valentine's Day rom-coms. Despite this, the story, characterisation and acting delivers surprisingly hard hitting emotional resonance throughout as it tells a tale of redemption, second chances and the struggle to be better than your past. It doesn't neatly fit into a particular genre and was so unlike anything else I've seen recently that I consider it a real breath of fresh air. The fight choreography was excellent, and the fight scenes while brutal and exciting to watch also consistently advanced the story rather than being shoved in for the sake of it. It reminded me of clever action comedies like Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead, with a little more campiness and a hefty side of pathos. Give it a chance, a future cult classic in the making.
