As a long-time Nancy Drew fan who was thoroughly disappointed by Midnight in Salem in such a way that I didn't think it could get worse, this game proved me wrong. The storyline was so vague and all over the place, that 92% of time, I had no clue as to what I was supposed to do next. Luckily, there was a hint system but it was horrible because it just told you what to do without any real effort when previous games allowed you to get hints from Bess, George, Ned, etc.
The graphics were worse than Her Interactive games from 20 years ago, and the movement system was so convoluted that it was impossible to get from point A to point B without taking 23 detours along the way. I don't understand how a game with such terrible graphics can lag as much as it did. I needed to buy a new computer anyways, and went with a gaming one in anticipation of this game - and it couldn't even handle running it without issues.
A lot of the puzzles were not intuitive at all, and so I wasted a lot of time simply trying to figure out what the heck to do to beat them. With how frustrating they were, a lot of breaks needed to be taken because it felt like I was wasting my life away playing this game. SUCH a difference from the old games which felt immersive and fun to play.
Lastly, the voice acting was incredibly painful. It was the same level of quality as Midnight in Salem had, which is disappointing because many people complained about the voice acting back then. Voice acting can require coaching to get particular nuances correct, and it was clear that there has been no guidance given at all.
This game was not worth the nearly $50 it cost to buy. If you're looking for a fun detective game with compelling characters, challenging puzzles, and an intriguing storyline, stick with the classic Her Interactive games which are much cheaper and more fun to play.
