Thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie with Tyrone Power and Maureen O’Hara, again in 2024. First saw it back in the 1960s, the scenes and some of the dialogue brought back memories. The movie takes place at West Point Military Academy and spans 50 years in the lives of two Irish immigrants. At first, Tyrone is working odd jobs at the Point, to enlisting in the Army and assigned to numerous duties there; from a lowly Private to an E8 he becomes a fixture at the Point recognized by every cadet over those 50 years. It runs the spectrum from light comedic scenes to emotionally draining tear jerkers (at least for me). An extensive cast includes Ward Bond (Wagon Train), Peter Graves (MI), and a very young Patrick Wayne. No special effects or computer graphics, just talented actors! The names of the cadets include well known Army generals include George Patton, Omar Bradley, and Dwight Eisenhower. It’s the highs and lows of 50 years of Tyrone Powers character compressed into a 2 hour movie. I really enjoyed seeing it again on Amazon Prime (12/3/2024).
