To be quite frank, this is an incredibly difficult to digest novel even for someone who loves most if not all aspects of modern horror. I'll leave my review as vague as possible, as giving the plot away ruins the effect, but if you enjoy being mentally challenged by something that is incredibly graphic and horrifying, I would recommend it. (thought look for a PDF, physical copies are a bit expensive)
As an historical milestone and touchstone of the genre it is worth the read, but even then a lot of people that I have had discussions with about the book itself either don't see the point of the text or dislike it. The two points that I have come across most often are that A) There is no redemption and cannot be any type of redemption, and B) that it is difficult if not impossible to reconcile that children could ever be capable of the type or amount of 'evil' that is depicted in the book.
I give it five stars not because it is an amazing or life-changing book for the prose or narrative ( there ARE better books for those experiences) but because the book is one that forces you to look at a perspective and side of humanity that many people do not wish to explore or outright refuse to delve into.
