I’m a huge fan of Haunting of Bly Manor and Haunting of Hill House because of their psychological symbolism and storytelling. I was really excited to watch this show, hoping for some connection to the characters. While it was interesting, I felt like every episode followed the same formula to the point that it all meshed together towards the last few episodes. I didn’t find myself caring much about any particular character’s outcome, and the mystery behind how they died wore off pretty quickly. Instead it just got more and more gruesome with cheap gore and hastily tied up storylines. With Bly Manor and Hill House every moment was significant and meaningful down to the last frame, but House of Usher felt like a high schooler’s film project recreating Poe’s work, complete with spirit halloween faux blood and flashy animatronic villains.
