This book was a mid book. Tops. In the beginning I felt was the only time there was really any time I wanted to turn the page. But when he actually started to do something on the island was when it got boring. It felt like the author was bored with his own book and just wanted it to end towards the end. He went through a lot which seemed super fake. Which I understand the book isn't based off true events but if someone were to go what he went through they would have died.
Also he cut himself one night and wanted to die. But the next day he was over it and acted like it never happened. But I know that when someone does that they're not over it in one night. It's like an addiction to most.
There was also a lot of repetition which made it hard to read. Personally I'm not a big repetition person and it makes it hard to focus and read when there is repetition. I understand that in most books it has it at least once but this one had a lot of it.
I read this book as an 8th grader and I thought I was a book made for younger kids. Like 5-6th grade level. I also wasn't a very big fan of the concept. Many books have a similar plot to this one. I actually read a book last year (Touching Spirit Bear. Highly recommend) and it was almost the same to this book. The protagonist was alone on an island. A lot had happened to the protagonist and they miraculously survived. However the book I had read had one major event which made it seem fairly realistic. But this one just had event after event and it seemed unrealistic.
So overall I wouldn't recommend this book to a person in my grade unless your into survival stuff. But (SPOILER) he also eats turtle eggs which is psychotic.
