I don't get how people are saying that Alina's character always pities herself. I guess people don't have a drop of sympathy nowadays neither do they know loneliness or power or responsibility. I admit that this book has many dragging scenes and sometimes the characters do idiotic things. Mal and Alina feel like they have bad communication and Mal really does seem like a toxic person. He has sacrificed a lot for Alina but he doesn't understand her power at all. When they were in Novyi Zem, he didn't even care about how sick and weak she looked. He was just happy to play the hero because he gets insecure easily. Nikolai was the best thing in the book. Darkling was certainly a good villain but I don't get why people romanticize him. A beautiful face can never compensate for a rotten personality.
