I just watched the first episode and, while it was beautifully filmed and the acting is good to exceptional, I found the engagement party scenes troubling. The portrayals of the Jewish people are stereotypical, one-dimensional. In addition, Esther’s adoptive mother says no one in the houseful of guests is interested in culture or politics. Ha! You’d be hard-pressed to find a group of Jews where that was true. The director did get a few things right: the blessing Esther recites and the music and dancing. I will watch the entire series because the world needs to know that this happened to Indigenous peoples in the Americas.
