I grew up watching the original Perry Mason TV show. This series is nothing at all like it. That said, it is worth watching if you are retired, like me, and have lots of free time. The series has good stories, compelling court scenes and the acting is excellent. I'd give it a four or even five stars but the pace of each episode slows down as homage is paid to several woke subplots that have little to do with the story line. For example, at one point a lesbian couple are seen at a boxing match, on their first date, discussing the fine points of two men beating the daylights out of one another. This had nothing to do with the ongoing story of that episode. Some scenes like this one seemed artificial. But alas, this is Hollywood, insistently ideological. To be fair the writing, acting and production is quite good and I will keep watching to see how thing turn out. I remain ever patient with Hollywood forcing me to remember that minorities are all good, worthy and upright citizens whereas white men in power are pigs. But not Perry Mason, luckily, he only surrounds himself with the wrongfully oppressed whom he lifts up and saves. He is a good white guy. Mostly.
