Sigh, where to begin .. the protagonist being so lightskin when her whole family is dark is disturbing. This trope of lightskin women being our representation as black women is getting so tiring. They gave her braids and hoops as if that would force her into the black mold and represent us all. Her overly genius attitude was at times very annoying. The scene with her in the classroom debating a high school teacher about the theory of death is so corny. The scene where her father defends her was nice but it still wasnโt needed. She was basically running the class like girl relax then youโre mad the teacher is mad. They tried to add in other struggles of black peoples like the mispronunciation of complex black names and itโs like ugh. They were just trying really hard with this one. Also how was the girl quizzing her on elements but needed to study her alphabet Iโm sorry. This movie was such a poor excuse to show any drop of black excellence. It is just so ghetto and stereotypical. Not a fan
