This is a wonderful movie. Larson is enviable for bringing such a powerful character to life--and not just super powerful. Carol Danvers is empowered in her own right as an ordinary human well before she is magically empowered.
The film will resonate to those who have ever been told to smile, to not be emotional (whether or not they are, in fact, being emotional), or asked to make themselves less for the benefit of another, to their complete detriment. Carol might be fighting aliens and space battles, but the insidious sexism that is thrown at her is completely relatable; watching Carol deal with sexists is, at times, like seeing your daydream screen.
Sharing in the onscreen friendships and partnerships is delightful, especially as Danvers isn't sexualized by her allies and the friendships ring true, down to her love of Lieutenant Trouble. (And a rousing speach from her bestie tells Carol how smart and capable she is above anything else.)
30 year old me loved this movie. 10 year old me probably would have grown up to be a fighter pilot.
