As a Sci fi lover I had high hopes for this book on purchasing-but it was so long, the characters so dull and so tediously written it was a great disappointment. I ended up throwing the book (narrowly missing the dogs) in despair not in ascension, unfortunately.

Well a good first half and interesting set up which kept me reading. Unfortunately the novel fell apart in the second half and I felt became ridiculous by the end. There were some good ideas but perhaps the author took on too many big themes and was unable to satisfactorily combine them to provide a fitting conclusion. The second half was a bit “soap opera” and the book would have been better being half the length, as the characters were a lot less interesting, than the themes.
