I started this show as the animation is beautiful and the action is very fun but after getting a few episodes in, I keep finding myself getting dragged out of the story by back and forth story telling, very bizarre character choices that border on preachy, a mopey protagonist, and inconsistent threat levels for the zombies. When it comes to character decisions, they try to portray the Shoguns sun as a bad guy because he says that โonly the strong survive and the weak dieโ. In an apocalyptic Hell scape where itโs shown many times in the first few episodes that towns get wiped out regularly, itโs a very fair statement but yet the MC thinks thatโs mean and then calls him a bad guy when he kills a man who not only betrayed him in the past, but tried to kill him again. Trying to use that as justification for labeling the shogunโs son as a bad guy just doesnโt cut it for me as he did nothing wrong. As for weapons, weโre shown that his new gun and bullets can kill the kabane but everyone else struggles with itโฆ but they also donโt cause decapitating them also kills themโฆ and so do head shotsโฆ so why make something to punch through the core when the regular zombie kill methods already work? I want to like this series but it keeps tossing and turning between being really fun/interesting and then not knowing what itโs doing with itself. Iโll keep watching but I hope it hammers out its mistakes and doesnโt get preachy
