Told my kids I’m done with Jack now. Used to pre book the hardback. Don’t buy me any more. Got this for my 64th birthday though. (Same age as Jack? How’s the arthritis ?) Where did it go wrong? It was tripping up at “nothing to lose” then came back through “gone tomorrow/61 hours/ worth dying for” brief respite with “personal” but anything since has been very poor. Anyone scores this book more than 1 star please go back and reread the first 11 books. I moved house (and countries) and the only book I really had to take with me was “the hard way”. This plot was done halfway through then instead of finishing off the bad guys they did the Adam west Batman series thing where they get to escape again? Last one in the series. Jacks in Quebec. Biker gangs for fisticuffs. Jack speaks French. Jack foils USA plot to invade Canada. Dies trying. Posthumous knighthood.

Hmm. Do the production people sit in a room and go “what’s the most frustrating and inconclusive ending we can think of?” Or “how do we get a series 2?”. Really liked it, some very likeable characters and real life “what would you do if that was you? ” decisions. Acting was great. Ending was rubbish. Here’s mine. Farm surrounded. Massive shoot out, the blonde polish girl and the ex marine blow the bad guys away. Coppers turn up late. The boy ends up with the girl, the police lady gets a medal, polish girl gets her son back and Clunes (very good in this) gets to farm in peace for the rest of his natural. Fade to Rhys driving the combine harvester. Not difficult is it! Prediction - series 2 - the daughter who turns up for the last 5 minutes gets kidnapped a lot (like Kim in 24). I suppose I’ll watch it but please can we have a proper ending next time?
