What a great adaptation of Trent Dalton's novel of the same name. Very faithful to the book. It is a raw story told through the eyes of a young child (Eli Bell) and bother (August Bell) watching their fumbling drug dealing step father trying to get ahead.
It is confronting as the story is very believable. Sometimes hard to watch. Violence (as you might expect) is dotted throughout the story line. I also found myself cheering on the hapless mum and step dad as they really try to do their best for the kids who grow up way faster than they should in the "wrong side of the tracks" suburb of Dara in SE Queensland.
5/5. Great book and even better film adaptation.
