I didn’t enjoy it. The tone was depressing throughout. Historically it was a concise run through 70 odd years of the 20th century but that is available elsewhere. But no one did learn anything nor showed any particular remorse for wrongs they committed Maybe that was the irony. No likeable adult characters apart possibly from Daphne and Rosalind and Lawrence. Long passages referencing authors and philosophers which made me feel the author was simply displaying his own literary knowledge - unnecessary in McEwans case. I chose the book in faith that the author could not disappoint but this time he really did.
