"Back there, I could drive tanks, pilot gunships, I was trusted with million dollar equipment, here I can't even hold a job parking cars!"
Rambo: First Blood (or originally First Blood) is singlehandidly one of the best -if not the best- 80's action movie. The only three I can think of that rival it are Predator, T2, and Die Hard. First Blood tells the story of the now inconic John Rambo who after being pushed around by the town sheriff, Will Teasle, who then arrests Rambo for having his knife. If this wasn't enough, the deputies (save for one, who is sympathetic torwards Rambo) torture him for no good reason other than the fact he was a vietnam veteran. But Rambo is no ordinary soldier, he is a green beret the best of the best, made to be the ultimate killing machine. After somehow soloing the entire police station and stealing a bike. He hides in the woods while being hunted. Eventually the national guard is called in and with them, the man who forged Rambo into the killing machine he is today Colonel Troutman, with them.
Trautman manages to contact Rambo using his old call sign where Rambo informs his former leader of the last remaining group members death. After failing to convince Rambo to give himself up. The national guard bombs him with a light grenade launcher (iirc) causing him to be stranded in a rat infested cave. He managed to escape, hijacking a truck with a weapon soon to become associated with Rambo. The M-60 light machine gun. Now being armed to the teeth, Rambo begins his true one man war. Exploding the gas station (after ensuring no one would get hurt), and causing thousands if not millions in property damage. The national guard has him surronded with M16's galore and over 200 men. Trautman arrives telling Rambo it's over. Who launches into the what is singlehandidly the greatest Stallone monolouge ever made.
Stallone truly displays his acting skills when he speaks to Trautman, who actually understands what he's going through, Rambo begins to break down as he recounts the death of one of his best air force buddies from the war involving a suicide bomb.
Rambo II and III are relatively good action movies (Rambo II was actually an unironically good movie but lacks depth. Rambo III was just pure testosterone and explosions). But pale in comparison to First Blood, which to me is THE sylvester stallone movie except for Rocky.
