As someone who followed his career and its different stages very closely growing up, i was floored by Austin Butlerโs stunning performance before saying anything else about the movie. Wow. Honestly this actor watched and studied not just the stage presence and singing but Elvisโ normal speech and mannerisms. Butler is by far the best impersonation of Elvis Presley out of all the nearly 10 different ones out there. Go out of your way to watch it. The movie was very good but i personally enjoyed the second half more mainly because its more focused and shows the relationship strain between Elvis and Colonel leading up to his creative dissatisfaction. The first half of the film is targeted to the younger audience who is used to a fast-paced style and scene transitions, felt more like a highlight reel. Tom Hanks was good, over-the-top but his character came through and it didnt bother me too much compared to many people who criticized him. One last thing I respected here is that they didnโt fly by his last year where Elvis looked bloated, they actually show us the human being at that time of his life, how truly sad and unhappy he looked, and ending with what the real Elvis looked like. Brilliant. And Baz shows us that above all, the emotion in his performance was there until the very end. All in all, very good and very enjoyable! This Elvis fan got what he paid for.
