This will be controversial to obsessional fans but for my money the first album Animal Collective released worth listening is Sung Tongs. Everything that preceded it is at best pleasant background listening or, as in the case of this one, an annoying mess. Even though the sounds are compelling, the lack of any semblance of structure or musical restraint makes this (unfortunately named) album my least favourite of all the A.C. catalogue.
