I sat in anticipation of this show since I first played Halo. When the first episode aired I had to of been one of the first viewers. I was over it within 5 minutes. I thought the opening battle scene was cool but was left with complete disappointment throughout the rest if the entire series. This isn't John. This isn't Halo. Forget all about Halo Reach. It's completely forgotten in this production. The only thing that really stays mildly consistent is Dr. Halsey. A cut throat scientist who's only aspiration remains construde and emotionally overlooked. I've always thought Halo had plot holes and contrived decisions in positions of transferring information between teams of people but this has to be the most expensive failure. I couldn't help but laugh when Cheif took his helmet off. What has been years of build up was conceded to a scene I was nothing but disgusted by. After watching this I can honestly say playing the games is different. I have to basically forget ever watching the show to enjoy myself. Cortana is just a terrible shell of her original self. This 117 would curl up in a ball and piss himself in most of the in-game experiences. Where they showed (few) blips of him in his original glory it either felt cringy or being utilized as a misleading commercial clip. The last episode has a terrible, forced premise and the worst battle scene in the entirety of Halo. I had to rewind it because I was so bored and lost focus. And at the bitter end I was hoping the screen would pan black and display a large "Sike" with a grunt twerking on the letters.
Overall I can't say I will ever watch this again. Season 2 (if some idiot green lights it) has so much to rectify it feels impossible. This show is monument to a failing cash grab. The only way I can see this being rectified is if they trolled their way out of it. Have this be some VR test and reveal it as a massive failure. Or have John wake up from a dream. I understand this is cheap writing tactics but honestly I'd accept it over everything this show has put out.
